We packed up our tiny storage container on Monday before flying to the east coast for a few weeks. It’s hard to believe we are no longer California residents. The past 11 months flew by!
Jim and I both agree living in Los Angeles for a year was a great experience for our family. It wasn’t always easy, but it’s been absolutely wonderful to watch Lawson and Sybil grow. When we moved here last August, four days before her first birthday, Sybil didn’t even know how to walk! And now she walks, runs, and talks.
I wanted to put together a quick list of the 15 things I’ll miss most about living in LA. I do not consider myself a foodie and am a little surprised that so many revolve around food! In no particular order…
- They’re known for macarons, but in my opinion the chocolate croissant at Laduree is the best
- I never knew I liked bran muffins until I tried one at Joan’s on Third
- The peppermint milk iced tea at Alfred’s Tea is as good as the place is Instagram worthy
- Being a 10 minute walk from The Grove. Lawson, Sybil and I spent countless hours there!
- Pop up shops of some of my favorite brands (Sézane, Cult Gaia)
- Days at the beach with my favorite people!
- Sushi is one food I crave. Since we go out to dinner about twice a year, Sugarfish delivery by Postmates became my treat
- Being so close to all the best shopping (Outdoor Voices, Glossier, Mansur Graviel, Cuyana, Marine Layer, Clare V to name a few)
- The diverse people from different countries and backgrounds
- I braved the California Science Center with Lawson and Sybil one morning. I can’t believe it’s free!
- Looking out our bedroom window at the city, especially the Hollywood sign in the distance
- After living in Arizona for 13 years, the cool summer nights were a definite highlight!
- Watching the 4th of July fireworks out our windows
- The Salt & Straw ice cream – birthday cakes and blackberries was my favorite
- Jim’s classmates – everyone was super friendly and nice. It was a wonderful built in community.
Thanks for the fun Los Angeles. You were good to us! Well, except those broken sidewalks. I hated pushing a double stroller over them. :)
