Fit Bits: Hike Runyon Canyon

runyon canyon, hiking, los angeles

When I’m traveling or on vacation, I like to scale back my workouts while still staying active. A good way to do this is to plan a jog, walk or hike in an area you’d like to explore. Hiking Runyon Canyon in Los Angeles has been on my list for the past few years, but I’d never managed to fit it in until yesterday.

I had read parking could be a challenge, but we didn’t have any issues finding on-street parking close to the entrance. Granted it was a Tuesday morning and I’m sure the weekend would be much busier. There are several trails; we chose the medium difficulty trail (route B). The first 5-10 minutes were fairly level with some inclines and I honestly wondered what the hype was all about. Then we turned a corner and found ourselves with great views of Los Angeles. We continued on and climbed the next section of stairs to even more panoramic views of downtown. I’d come back again to complete the full loop and explore another trail. The views are worth it!

Do you stay active on vacation or use it as a time to recharge? Or maybe a little of both?!
