Weekend Roundup: No. 186

Weekend

It’s one of my favorite weekends of the year! The Masters golf tournament started yesterday. It will forever remind me of being at the hospital and watching between contractions.

Although his birthday isn’t until Monday, we’re starting Lawson’s birthday celebrations early. I’m taking him to a performance at the Bob Baker Marionettes Theater today, tomorrow we invited Jim’s classmates over in the afternoon for cupcakes and Sunday we’re planning on heading to the beach. And of course, there will be lots of golf watching in between activities.

We were stuck inside at the beginning of the week when Sybil came down with a cold. By mid-week we were able to resume most of our normal activities.

When Sybil was napping yesterday, Lawson and I were sitting next to each other. All of a sudden I felt the building move and looked up to see our blinds swaying back and forth. I immediately knew it was an earthquake. It only lasted a few seconds, but it was unnerving nonetheless.

The one benefit of Sybil being sick this week is I had a lot of time to read while she was snuggled in my lap. I finished Pachinko and really liked it. The Nightingale is still my most recent favorite, but I couldn’t put Pachinko down. I forgot I pre-ordered the sequel to Slightly South of Simple a few months ago. If you’re headed to a beach or just looking for an easy, good read, I highly recommend it!

Anyone else a fan of Laguna Beach and The Hills? I’m team Lauren all the way, but follow Kristin Cavallari on Instagram and admit I’m impressed by her cooking. Her cookbook, True Roots, was released this week. All recipes are free of gluten, dairy and refined sugar. I’m almost intrigued enough to order it.

HIGH POINT:

Is it strange that my high point was experiencing the earthquake yesterday? I feel like it’s a rite of passage to living in LA!

LOW POINT:

Sybil came down with Lawson’s cold earlier this week. Her nose was like a faucet. She was so congested she had a hard time breathing, especially at night.

FIND OF THE WEEK:

Madewell has a 20% off promo through Monday (or 30% if you spend over $200). I stock up on their crew tee shirts and muscle tanks every spring/summer. The tees are less than $20 and tanks less than $15 on sale. I also ordered this bell sleeve top to try.
