Fall Goals

The B Bar Linkup: Fall Goals

I’ve always been a pretty goal-oriented person. Maybe it’s because I like to make lists and thrive on accomplishing things. When Victoria and Meg over at The B Bar posted about this month’s linkup theme of goals for the fall, I immediately knew I wanted to participate. After realizing I soon had a list a mile long, I decided to pare it back to a few more manageable goals. Because my real goal is to enjoy each day with the least amount of stress while bonding with my little luv.

A MONTH OF MEATLESS MEALS

My partner and I watched Fed Up a few months ago. Afterwards we were brainstorming ways to change our food habits and came up with the idea of forgoing meat for a month. (FedUp doesn’t really have anything to do with meat. It’s more about the amount of sugar in products.) At first we both thought “oh no big deal, we’ll just give up meat.” We picked October as our month because who wants tofurky for Thanksgiving?! As it gets closer, we’ve come to realize how often we eat it, especially chicken. If you have any good meat-free recipes, send them my way!

BLOG CONSISTENTLY

Ever since having my first baby in April (you can read more about his birth story here), I’ve found it hard to get back into a regular posting routine. I’d vow to start again, only to find my days occupied by feedings, play time and naps (for both of us). I’ve reset my expectations to creating and posting content three days a week focusing on style and my life as a new mama. I really do enjoy it and love being a part of the blogging community!

NIGHTLY FAMILY WALK

Recently we’ve gotten into the habit of going for a walk together each night. Lawson can get fussy at the end of the day, but immediately calms down once his stroller gets out of the door. Jim and I enjoy the time together. We talk about our days and all sorts of other random topics. I look forward to it all afternoon. It’s a great way to reconnect and spend time with Lawson exploring the neighborhood.

  2. Going meatless for a month sounds great! I was in the same boat as you, but then I started designing blogs for a lot of vegan and vegetarian food bloggers. Their blog photography was beautiful, and I started trying to make those recipes. Since August, I’ve been meatless. You should check out Healthy Nibbles and Bits and Dietitian Debbie Dishes for great vegetarian food recipes – An Unrefined Vegan has tasty sweets too!

Going meatless for a month is a great idea! I’ve been vegetarian/pescatarian for a while now, and it’s all about making it as manageable as you can; going for a month with a partner will definitely help a lot. For recipes, I highly recommend veggie chilis and tacos. Good luck, I’m sure you’ll do great!

I watched FedUp as well – it’s crazy how much sugar we tend to consume.

I eat a lot less meat than I used to. These days, I’ll have fish once a week, and steak occasionally, 1-2x per month. If you want a great documentary to convince you to give up meat / meat products, watch Cowspiracy. It’s pretty incredible.

I love anything vegetarian from the slow cooker. Roasting veggies is also awesome – I like to eat them with some lentils or chickpeas for protein. I also pin a tonne of vegetarian/vegan recipes, so I’m sure you can find some stuff here that fits your taste-buds!

    Hope that helps!

  6. I love the idea of a family evening walk, when I walk my dog in the evening I find the fresh air helps me a lot to relax at the end of the day. Glad you’re enjoying time with your new baby!
